AKURE — AN appeal has gone to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State
to emulate the gestures of his counterparts in neighbouring states by
returning mission schools, taken over by government over three decades
ago, to their original owners.
The Rector, Sacred Heart Catholic Minor Seminary in Akure, Rev. Fr. Valentine Omolakin, said this in Akure.
Omolakin noted that the return of the schools to original proprietors
was long overdue in view of the fact that the fall in the standard of
education was noticed since the government took over the schools and
failed to maintain the moral and academic standards entrenched by the
initial owners.
He noted that some states in the South-West zone had already taken
the ‘bull by the horn’ by perfecting strategies for the return of
mission schools to their owners.
He said: “Governor Olusegun Mimiko is a man of his words. He is a
product of mission schools just like his wife. He had pledged to take
steps towards a successful return of the schools to their owners.”
